Holocaust Victims SUE!!!!

I thought I was mistaken when I saw the headline "Jews Sue Germany for the Holocaust" But no you are reading that correctly. This is the first time I've seen a group of people sue a country for genocide. Lets dream for a second that this suit will not be thrown out or a memorial will just be built to say I'M sorry. Slavery and genocide are terrible things that still happen today in some parts of the world. The majority race, religion or political party can force other groups into submission. But the question I'm asking is sueing the governments really going to help?

We should all be held responsible... We the people put governments in power, they only have as much control as we give them. The Jews should not just be suing the people that stood by and let this injustice happen. Genocide only works for a limited amount of time because it causes political unrest which leads to economic unrest. This is why most modern countries do not practice genocide or slavery openly.

With this law suit underway, what kind of pandora's box are we opening? Is there or should there be a time limit on how long you have before you sue a country? I seen some pretty bizarre lawsuits... Suing McDonalds because you didn't know the coffee was hot. Another man sued a home owner because he got hurt while robbing the home. In both cases the "victims" won. How sue will other victims around the world start suing the government?

I don't forsee any of these law suits growing legs unless a group has the financial backing and the political influence to do so.

Wow! I hadn't heard this...yet another testament to the power of blogging, because I watch the news/read the news daily. Anyway, I see your point for sure about whether or not the suit will get anywhere. I think that they may be doing it more so for the purpose of making a statement, but who knows, maybe they really do intend to collect some damages.

This is the thing. As a Black woman, I would love to receive some sort of compensation for the arduous labor that my great, great grandparents put in during the days of slavery, but the mere complication of sorting it all out (how much time were they enslaved, where did they work, what was the value of their work), etc. is overwhelming. Sure, a system could be devised to dole out checks using an assumed amount of slave labor as a guide, but damn, nobody would be satisfied and it would go on and on and on.

I don't know how they'd sort out the travesty of the Holocaust any easier. How do you place value those deaths?

I hadn't heard of this one either!
I don't think it would go anywhere either BUT it would set a huge precedent for all the other groups who need to get in the courthouse and sue.. I can think of several.

I PRAY THAT THIS IS TRUE AND THAT THE JEWS WIN THE SUIT. Maybe the African diaspora represented in America will find the courage AGAIN to address the lawsuit that Martin Luther King, Jr., and El Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (known to most as Malcolm X) WOULD have pursued in the World Court if they were not assassinated by an agency of the US government. Even a symbolic fight will open the truth of the Jewish Holocaust to a generation that is slowly forgetting what happened in the early part of the last century. THAT alone is major for these times when the young assume that anything older than their own lives' timeline is "ancient history" and unworthy of attention. Humanity repeats history when it does not study it.

Andrew, could you post a news report link for this subject? I'm searching for one now.

Umm yea.... not that I am interested but let's just say I may know someone who is a Jew do you know how they would go about trying to get in on this? I mean you know strictly for support reasons. Is there any cash involved? I mean I am just trying to get the details.

After reading the article, I think that maybe they have a chance in court. I believe that suffering can pass on through generations, especially when something as tragic as genocide or slavery are concerned. Also considering that these are second generation sufferers, they are not so far removed from the tragedy. I think they have a better shot w/this law suit than black people have at getting reparations.

andrew, are you really an asshole? i've found that generally self-proclaimed assholes are good guys. why does speaking your mind, saying exactly how you feel and being "politically incorrect" (whatever that may mean to you) have to mean that you're an asshole? real assholes don't know that they're assholes.

in other news, can i link your blog on mine?

I'm with you when you express doubt that this type of thing will ultimately go anywhere. African Americans endured over 100 years of slavery, murder, etc. with no successful suit or reparation. Does the fact that Jews experienced horror 60ish years ago make their issue any more likely to grow legs? I doubt it because even though people elect governments, zealots like Hitler, Papa Doc, and name the African dictator of the month usually find a way to wrest control from the people and horde it for themselves. It isn't nearly as blatant as all that either. Bush has us in a war that NOBODY thinks we should be in.

The benefit of such legal action however, is that it brings attention and focus on man's inhumanity to man. It keeps these stories alive. If these horrors and their effects can educate current and future generations, perhaps they can be reduced. We have always found reasons to divide ourselves and kill each other of some pretty inconsiquential things, and I suspect we always will. But if this suit causes a few people to realize they should not give away their power and not stand idly by while this type of thing happens, then I'm thinking it's a good thing.

Ced - the news article is linked in the blog. I first say the headline on yahoo. I also saw that they are suing the French for lost property.

Tigress - Of course you can blog roll me!!!

Sugar - you can place a value one's life by multiplying their salary by the average age of life. The hard part is the knowledge that person gives to the next generation. The money is less important its the knowledge that creates several generations of wealth.

DC - There is a few that could use it. What do think would happen to the economy if the movement grew to other countries?

Andrew The Asshole said...

Jim - Lawsuits take years and with lawyer fees most of these lawsuits never make it because a government can drag it out for 25 years.

Hotnikz - Yeah I would say that they have a better chance because the are more united because they have a country of their own. Blacks don't really have a home because of slavery.

Tigress - You right I am a good guy. People really don't want to hear the truth, life's a game that needs marketing. I guess I'm not really an asshole if I know that telling the truth will label me an asshole by the mainstream.

G - yeah in a way lawsuit is part of the checks and balances that keeps order.

Hi Andrew, nothing to do with this post, but I have a quiestion for you for monday, from one of my blog buddies which I would like your intake on.

Does it really matter who fucks a fuck buddy?
I am asking, I want to know!
Are their emotions involved with a fuck buddy?
I have a male friend (not a fuck buddy) and he tells me that he has absolutely no emotional ties to his women fuck buddies.
Is it a gender thing maybe?
Or ego?
Tell me!!!!!

That's from little wing.
